On Location Hotel Photography: Mamaison Andrássy

The Hotel Photographer Always Arrives Before the First Guest

We stayed at the hotel the night before the photography session to capture the breakfast spread without any incoming guests the next morning. Due to the semi-basement location of the restaurant, there was limited natural light, but we used flash to highlight the colors and textures.

Next, we took part of the breakfast spread to the terrace of the first room to be photographed, where we took additional pictures in natural light. In interior photography and hotel photography, it is especially important to convey the ambiance of the hotel through our photo

No Sun? No Problem, We've Got It Covered!

Next up was photographing the hotel rooms, where setting up the bed scarves and linens properly was paramount. It was particularly challenging to avoid wrinkles on the textured (striped) linens. Fortunately, we had given the room numbers to the housekeeping staff in advance, and they took extra care to ensure everything was in place. This was a great help, allowing us to move quickly and take more photos without spending time on-site preparation.

Since there was no sunlight, I used a creative solution to photograph the deluxe room’s sofa. I stepped out onto the terrace with a flash in hand and illuminated the room from outside, mimicking natural sunlight streaming in. This trick is especially useful on rainy days, and if done correctly, even seasoned photographers won't notice the difference. This technique ensured that the photos appeared fresh and vibrant, as if they were taken on a sunny day.

Preparation is Key

Most of the hotel rooms overlooked Andrássy Avenue or the internal Délibáb Street. For the terrace photos, we sought angles that showcased Délibáb Street. We set the terrace table with care, adding a small dish to avoid emptiness and enhance the elegance of the images. Highlighting such small details is crucial in hotel photography as they convey the elegance and hospitality of the venue.

The hotel bathrooms were also well-prepared, but we always refined the small details. We arranged soaps, shower gels, and other amenities on the counter to ensure they looked their best in the photos. In interior photography, attention to such details is essential, as the goal is to make prospective guests feel the cleanliness and appeal of the bathrooms through the images.

Throughout every phase of the shoot, we aimed to showcase the hotel’s best aspects. Proper arrangement of room furnishings, optimal lighting setup, and meticulous attention to details all contribute to creating appealing hotel photographs. These images not only convey the hotel’s ambiance and style but also play a vital role in increasing bookings.

A Room That Doubles as a Meeting Space

Due to the winter photography session, by 5 p.m., our natural light sources had dwindled, necessitating a swift capture of the final room. This particular space boasted a 6-seater conference table, a foyer, and a larger room with a bed. With a 20-second exposure time, we managed to introduce ample light to reflect a daytime ambiance. The extended exposure allowed the room to appear bathed in natural light, even after sunset. The foyer setup added an elegant touch to the images, which aimed to showcase the hotel’s versatility and appeal, ultimately aiding in the growth of bookings.
