Mountain View Hotel Photoshooting in Rauris, Austria
Stunning view: Rauris
In Austria's Rauris Valley, there is a Hungarian hotel called Sonnhof Hotel Rauris. By this, I mean the owner is Hungarian, the entire staff is Hungarian, and even 95% of the guests are Hungarian. This makes it an ideal destination for those who want to travel abroad but are hesitant about language barriers. We had the opportunity to photograph this hotel over two days, focusing on the interiors on the first day and capturing lifestyle shots with two models on the second day.
One day before the photoshoot, we set of to get know the hotel’s features and to plan the next day’s shooting schedule. Since Zell am See is nearby, we could not resist stopping there first, which meant we only arrived at the hotel after sunset. The hotel was closed, as it usually shuts down every December until Christmas, allowing us to work without disturbing any guests.
Gábor, the hotel owner, welcomed us and guide us a tour of the property. We discussed the details, such as the positioning of the pillows, whether they should lie flat on the bed or stand upright. This is exactly why a location scouting is so important: to avoid taking time away from the actual photoshoot the next day.

First day: Hotel interior shooting
We had luck with the weather as it had snowed a few days prior. Since the hotel is located in the Rauris Valley, it is common in winter for fog to block the mountain view, with clouds settling in the valley. Luckily, that was not the case this time, and the surroundings were beautifully visible. We photographed the rooms, the sauna, the pool, the restaurant, the bar, and the reception area. Additionally, we captured several exterior shots, especially the next day, as fresh snow had fallen overnight. We also needed to photograph the terraces to showcase the various views.
Second day: Hotel Lifestyle photoshooting
On the second day, models Kata Domján and Ádám Ferenczi joined us for lifestyle photos. We went through the various areas of the hotel, starting at the reception, followed by the breakfast setup, sauna, restaurant, a snowy walk in front of the hotel, and finally the rooms. Patrik stepped out onto the terrace with a flash to create a morning wake-up photo that looked as if sunlight was streaming in.

Heading back
In the evening, we had to start our journey back, as we needed to be home by Saturday. We would have gladly stayed a few more days, though. Due to the Christmas season, the highway was still busy even at midnight, with several accidents along the way, making the drive home about an hour and a half longer than usual.
The day after our photoshoot, the hotel reopened to a full house. While these snowy photos are perfect for winter marketing, I believe a location like this calls for refreshed imagery for summer communication. This is just to say, it would be amazing to return in the summer to capture new photos when the valley is lush and green.
